MATRICULATION: SACOETEC PROVOST INSPIRES NCE STUDENTS TO REACH FOR HEIGHTS

Monday, March 3, 2025 was a special day at Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology. It was the matriculation day for Degree and NCE students of the College and therefore a day for reflections and celebration.
The events held separate sessions with the Degree matriculation holding earlier in the 500-Capacity Auditorium and the NCE matriculation immediately following in Adeola Kiadese Lukmon AUdirium, both in the permanent site of the College.

The NCE matriculation was attended by officials from Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, members of the College Management, Deans and Directors, Heads of Departments and parents, guardians and well-wishers of the fresh students.

The matriculation day was the end point of series of activities that were held, leading up to the matriculation event. Among the events that held prior were the orientation programme for the freshmen, sports competitions and department awareness programmes that acquainted students with all the information they needs to understand the processes they had become a part of.
In her speech, the Provost of the College, Dr. Modupe Ayodele Oba-Adenuga welcomed the students to the College, establishing the fact that the College remains the first tertiary institution in Ogun State having been established in 1978. The College is also the only state-owned College of Education in Ogun State and has produced countless professionals serving in different capacities throughout the state and beyond.
The Provost reminded the matriculating students of salient facts of their studentship. She said, “As you this opportunity, remember that you are now a part of a rich tradition of excellence, scholarship and leadership.” She explained that the students would not only be taught cognitively, but also in character and vocation of your choice to prepare you for future challenges.

At the end of her written speech, the Provost took time off to specifically address the mindset of the students and society towards the NCE programme. She began by informing the students that she is a proud holder of the NCE, which was the point at which she began her educational and teaching career. While admitting that at that time there was no degree pressure, but all the same, the students must see this stage as a starting point of great heights they can rise to. If she could herself rise to the position of the Provost of the institution, what the students needed were hard work, commitment and perseverance.
