REPORT OF THE 2024 EDITION OF GATEWAY TERTIARY INSTITUTION GAMES (GATIG 2024)
Preamble
The 2024 edition of Gateway Tertiary Institutions Games (GATIG 2024) was held at Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State between Wednesday, 25th and Sunday, 29th of September, 2024.
SACOETEC participated in the competition with 84 athletes. The events participated were:
- Football – Male & Female
- Athletics – Male & Female: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 4x100m, 4x400m, javelin, discuss, shotput.
- Volleyball – Male
- Table Tennis – Male & Female
- Chess – Male & Female
- Ayo Olopon – Male & Female
SACOETEC MEDALS
SACOETEC athletes had to deal with so many challenges, some of which stemmed from the fact that College was in transition from one administration to another. With very little to inspire them, the athletes still went into the contests with zest and determination. Defying all odds, they gave their best every time they were called up. They were able to showcase their talents and won medals in the following events:

- 4×100 (Male) Bronze
- 4×400 (Female) Silver
- Football (Male) Bronze
- Football (Female) Bronze
- Shotput (Female) Bronze

- Ayo Olopon (Female) Bronze
- Ayo Olopon (Male) Bronze
- 400m (Female) Silver
- Javelin (Female) Bronze
- Shotput (Female) Bronze
The total medals are:
Gold – 2
Silver – 2
Bronze – 13
All the silver and bronze medals could easily have been gold but for absence of good kit and motivation and but for underhand tactics of some contingents who wanted to win at all cost.
The competition was attended by participants from Olabisi Onabajnjo University, Federal College of Education, Osiele, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Gateway ICT Sapaade, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Science, Ilese-Ijebu, Crescent University, Ota and D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori-Ewekoro.
The College Sport Committee wishes want to thank the management ably led by our Dr. Modupe Oba Adenuga, principal officers and staff for their support and visit during the competition.
Special thanks to the staff contingent to the competition who despite the discomfort of the competition terrain, gave their time and resources to ensure that the athletes had a memorable time.
