SACOETEC has a new Provost!
At the expiration of the tenure of the phenomenal provost, Dr Adeola Kiadese Lukman, who led the College to enviable heights in his eight-year tenure, there was undeniable anxiety regarding succession. This is not unusual, but in this instance, stakeholders were overtly anxious to see that the successor had the potentials to sustain the momentum set by Dr Adeola Kiadese.
After several anxious days, the announcement was made that Dr. Modupe Oba-Adenuga, who was at the time, the Dean of the School of Education, as well as the Chapter Chairman of COEASU (Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union) would succeed Dr. Adeola Kiadese.
Usually, it takes a little time to judge the reaction of stakeholders to announcements like this. Interviews had been conducted by the Governing Council of the College for four candidates, so expectations were limited to those four. it did not take long for the announcement to draw reactions as stakeholders were unanimous that a good decision had been taken. without prejudice to other qualified candidates to the position, the celebrations began immediately. Goodwill messages poured it. Remarkably, the other candidates also congratulated the newly-appointed provost immediate, allying fears of any form of bad blood.
The students were not going to be left out. As a matter of fact, they took the lead in the celebration the next morning, mounting a ‘roadblock’ by the school gate and ushering the Provost into the campus, sweeping the paths with makeshift brooms, waving shirts and jackets, singing and dancing all the way to the administrative block. it was indeed a cheering sight.
Dr. Modupe Oba-Adenuga has settled into her role and has handled the job with grace and candour. During the first College Assembly since assuming office, she appealed for support and received assurances that she would receive unalloyed support. Dr. Oba-Adenuga pledged that she would work with everyone, giving everyone opportunity to contribute to the growth of the institution. She however declared that the only individuals she would not work with are the ones who are determined to pull down the institution.
